A lot of us feel that we can only keep going if we have endless cups of coffee to wake upo our brains, or that cigarettes keep us calm, and chocolate provides the pressure we are lacking when times get difficult. What’s more they are not illegal and you’re not doing anyone else any harm, so what’s the problem?

The problems with caffeine and sugar are that they actually make us worse in the long term. Caffeine has an effect on blood sugar levels so that you have highs and lows. Most people are familiar with slumping mid-afternoon and needing a snack to keep them going. This is when blood sugar levels have dipped and the more caffeine you drink, the more they go haywire.
