TOP 12: Catch a Tuk Tuk

Tuk Tuk in every road of Cambodia. It is more fun for travellers to catch a Tuk Tuk as compared to other transportation such as cars or buses. Sitting on tuk tuk will be cooler than walking because of the speed. It’s important to remember negotiate the price. The price for short distance was about $2-$5 USD.

TOP 13: Go to Market

Market is where locals go to buy anything from hardware, clothing, jewellery, flowers, local handicrafts, fresh produce and etc. We shop at Central Market (Phnom Penh), Psar Toul Tom Pong, also called the “Russian Market” (Phnom Penh), and old market & night market (Siem Reap). All in all, the “Russian Market” was our flavor market in Cambodia.

TOP 14: Grab a fresh fruit shake

A must try fresh shake at the cost of 1 USD. It had a wide variety range of fruits. It is basically blend the fruits with ice cube, condensed milk and sugar syrup. It can be very sweet, and you can ask for less sugar or no sugar at all.

TOP 15: Go Pub Street

Siem Reap’s nightlife scene comprises lively bars, cocktail lounges and international restaurants. During the day, it’s a good place for eating, and in the evening all the night clubs and bars open. We had a drink at Red Piano where Angelina Jolie’s hangout when she made the Tomb Raider movie. The Red Piano is famous for the ‘Tomb Raider’ cocktail named after Angelina Jolie.

TOP 16: Go to the highest rooftop bar in Phnom Penh

The Eclipse Sky Bar is one of the looftop bar opens on Monivong Boulevard. Its is the highest rooftop bar and restaurant in the city. It’s located on the 23rd floor of the Phnom Penh Tower and the bar is fully open air. The Eclipse Sky Bar also won the 2014 People choice award for “The Best Sky Bar”. To sum up, we like the place and the view very much. The staffs are friendly and price was reasonable for the bar standard.

TOP 17: Enjoy The Apsara Traditional Khmer Dance

Apsara dance is the commonly used term to describe the traditional Cambodian dance form that was previously practised in the royal palaces. Khmer dance is a highly stylised artform, in which dancers use a complex alphabet of hand and body positions to convey a story, similar to mime or ballet. Many restaurants and hotels present Apsara Dance Shows. Our one-hour traditional performances include buffer dinner.

TOP 18: Spend a night at the movie

Spend a night at the movie wasn’t our plan until we found out Cineplex cinema is just 3 minutes walk from our hotel. Platinum Cineplex located at the Sorya mall in Phnom Penh. The theater is on the fifth floor of the mall. The ticket price is $3 USD for the latest blockbuster.

TOP 19: Visit the FRIENDS shop and restaurant

Friends-International started working with street children in 1994. Since then they have expanded their services to support other groups of urban marginalized children and youth between 0 and 24 years of age. We went to Romdeng FRIENDS restaurant in Phnom Penh. Romdeng is run by Mith Samlanh, which has worked to build the futures of former street children and marginalized young people in Phnom Penh since 1994. Romdeng serves Cambodian food that ranges from almost forgotten recipes from the provinces to contemporary creative Cambodian cuisine.

* We orderd Amok Fish. Amok is a traditional Kmher curry made with meat or fish, lemon grass and coconut milk.

TOP 20: Go Khmer body massage

Base on our research, Lemon glass is one of the top massages in Phnom Penh. And, something different comes to me, which is Khmer massage. According to their website Khmer massage involves very little stretching at all. The main style of Khmer massage is a type of ‘kneading’, working deep into the muscles and leaving you feeling relaxed, sleepy and ‘floaty’ afterwards

TOP 21: Spending some time in a coffee shop

Last, we spent our last hour in Cambodia in a coffee shop while waiting for our driver to send us the Airport. We get the coffees at The Hive Siem Reap. This little places provide good coffee and very nice decorations.

All in all, that the Top 21 things Shawn and Sherene do in Cambodia !
